Author Event: 1 p.m., Barnes & Noble, 7707 Bluebonnet Blvd. Author Kaylin Haynes will be signing copies of her book, "Rising Above the Rubbish."

Author Event: 1 p.m., Barnes & Noble, 2590 CitiPlace Court. K D Kemp will be signing copies of his book, "Joshua the Rescue Kitty," a true story about a young kitten who had been abandoned, then rescued and adopted by the author.

Tuesday, Dec. 5

Genealogy Open Lab: 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m., EBR Main Library, 7711 Goodwood Blvd. An open session to give old and new researchers a chance to ask questions. A Special Collections staffer will be present to assist with the library’s numerous genealogy databases and to offer tips and suggestions. Seating is limited to 10. Registration is required. Author event: 9 a.m. to noon, Red Stick Farmers' Market, Fifth and Main streets, downtown. Advocate columnist Smiley Anders will sign copies of his books, "Best of Smiley" and "Smiley! A Laughing Matter."

Author Event: 11 a.m., Barnes & Noble, 7707 Bluebonnet Blvd. Doug Villien will be signing copies of his book, "Forgotten Baton Rouge," a collection of images of the city from the 1890s to the 1930s.

Author Event: 1 p.m., Barnes & Noble, 2590 CitiPlace Court. Jessica Schexnayder and Mary Manhein will be signing copies of their book, "Fragile Grounds: Louisiana's Endangered Cemeteries," a compilation of stories and photographs of endangered cemeteries throughout Louisiana's coastal zone and beyond. These burial places link the fragile land to the frailty of the state's threatened community structures.

Author Event: 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Barnes & Noble, 7707 Bluebonnet Blvd. Lenell Melancon will be signing copies of her children's book, "Tootles the Turtle Tells the Truth," an interactive book that teaches how to deal with bullies and the power of telling the truth.

Author Event: 3 p.m., Barnes & Noble, 2590 CitiPlace Court. Zachary Richard will perform and sign copies of his book, "The Legend of L'il Red," a tale of a blind turtle and a one-clawed baby crawfish who find each other in the middle of a hurricane and the adventures and challenges they face.

Author Event: Noon to 2 p.m., Barnes & Noble, 7707 Bluebonnet Blvd. Holly Clegg will be signing copies of her various cookbooks, ranging from specialty diets for specific illnesses to basic cooking. All of her books are designed with healthy, yet delicious, food in mind. 

Author Event: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Barnes & Noble, 2590 CitiPlace Court. Chris Russo Blackwood will be signing copies of her book, "My Brother's Keeper: A Thirty Year Quest to Bring Two Killers to Justice."
