A YOUNG woman had a lucky escape after a strange man stalked her home in broad daylight.

Chilling footage filmed the man walking eerily close behind Jyoti Matoo on a street in Leeds, a city four hours north of London, around 3pm on Tuesday, The Sun reports.

The 30-year-old tried to change direction when she noticed the man had been following her from the city centre for some time.

To her horror, he continued to pace closely behind her, and even crossed the road.

The situation only came to a halt when Miss Matoo fortunately managed to find two women who were chatting nearby and she went over to stand by them.

Her actions caused the man to stop in his tracks and pretend to point in an attempt to look lost before quickly walking away.

Miss Matoo was left shaken by the encounter but was even more upset after watching just how close the man got to her while watching back the CCTV.

She said: “It is scary to think what could have happened. Was he going to mug me? Attack me? Who knows what he was planning on doing?

“I think he was just waiting until he got me alone down a street. Luckily I found these two ladies talking and just went up to them.

“They just looked at me like what is she doing. The guy then started pointing around pretending he was lost before running away.”

With lots of young women in and around the city centre, Miss Matoo decided to post some of the CCTV footage on Facebook to warn others.

The video has now been viewed more than 32,000 times and more than 200 women have contacted her, asking for reassurance.

She added: “Something needs to be done. I will be teaming up with a local security company to offer free seminars for women on safety when travelling.”

A spokesman for the local West Yorkshire Police said: “West Yorkshire Police is investigating a suspicious incident that happened in the Dock Street area of Leeds at 3pm on Tuesday 7 November, 2017

“Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call police on 101 quoting crime reference 13170520292.”
