CLEVELAND, Ohio - Donatos Pizza is adding a twist to its delivery: Now, you can have gift cards brought to you.
The gift-card delivery program is available at all 160 locations of the Columbus-based chain, a rep tells us.
Customers can order the card online in increments of $10, $25 and $50. No food order is required.
The company is touting the service as a way to handle-last minute gift options, including if you show up at a party empty-handed.
Pizza delivery has come a long way since it started in the late 1800s, when Queen Margherita opted for a simpler meal than the richer ones she was accustomed to on her travels across Italy. A pizza chef in Naples delivered - literally - and the rest is history.
Donatos also has integrated with Apple Watch, Amazon Prime Now, UberEATS and iOS and Android apps this year. It also offers an "email and text club" allowing customers to sign up online to receive news about flash sales and promotions.
The 54-year-old company has restaurants in nine states, with most of its locations in Ohio.

A manager at an Akron East of Chicago Pizza said his franchise could deliver gift cards if the delivery order is at least $10. Some Ohio-based East of Chicago Pizza locations offer online delivery for food, as does Domino's.
