INDEPENDENCE --- Drunken driver, Rockside Road: Police pulled over a driver at 8:40 p.m. Nov. 16 after he was seen pulling in front of, and nearly hitting, a pick-up truck while making a right hand turn. The driver was asked if he'd had anything to drink that night and he replied that he "had two bags" of alcohol. The man failed field sobriety tests and a blood-alcohol and was arrested.
Warrant arrest, Rockside Road: Police responded to numerous calls of a man in a wheelchair in the roadway flagging down drivers at 6:07 p.m. Nov. 16. Before police arrived, the man went to a nearby Holiday Inn and asked to use a computer. He was allowed to do so for 15 minutes, then reportedly refused to leave. Police stopped the man in the hotel parking lot and offered him a ride to an RTA station. Police later found he had an outstanding warrant and the man was arrested and turned over to Westlake Police.
Impaired driver, Interstate 77/I-480: Police pulled over a driver at 3:10 p.m. Nov. 20 after receiving calls from other motorists that the man was "all over the road." The driver told police he has diabetes and his hands sometimes "freeze up," making driving difficult. The man denied drinking any alcohol since the night before, but police found empty bottles of alcohol in his truck and the man blew more than twice the legal limit for intoxication in a blood-alcohol breath test.
Open container, Interstate 77: A driver was cited for speeding and open container after he told police he had "just opened" a can of beer when he was pulled over for traveling 85 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone. The opened beer was found on the floorboard of the car.
