CLEVELAND, Ohio - Indie-rock band Hello, Bandit might be a new player in the Cleveland music scene, but making music is nothing new for singer Brian Thompson.
Sixteen years ago, Thompson bought his first guitar. His cousin, Nick Thompson, got his drum set a few months later as a Christmas gift. The two have been making music together ever since. "We've always been in bands together, it's always been him and me playing together," said Brian.
The two started a high school jam band called Juice, and later created a group called The Forest Green. But throughout most of his music career, Brian experienced intense stage fright that challenged him in performing live shows.
This year, the cousins connected with bassist Nick Vangorder and guitarist Alex Hlavna, and Hello, Bandit formed. The new lineup helped Brian get over his nervousness onstage. "It kind of snapped me out of that," he said. "I still get really nervous when I play. But at this point, I think it's more helpful for me, it kind of keeps me on my toes."
The band's name came from a love of the TV show "Dexter" -- specifically, Season 5, Episode 2 of "Dexter," titled "Hello, Bandit."
Since the band's formation seven months ago, Hello, Bandit has released an EP titled "Sands," composed of three upbeat indie songs. It took a few months to put the EP together, since band members did all the recording, mixing and mastering.
Now, the band is teaming up with cleveland.com to premiere a new single titled "Frankenstein." You can listen to the song below.
The band is taking a break from live performances to create new music, and hopes to release an album in spring 2018. Hello, Bandit also plans on performing more live shows around Cleveland at that time....Read more
