CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The first trailer for "Avengers: Infinity War" is out and, in a word, whoa!
The film is the culmination of the previous 18 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it shows in the trailer, with just about every one of the 35 heroes and villains in the franchise making an appearance.
Original Avengers team members Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) are joined by newbies like Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man (Tom Holland in a fancy new suit, no less). A bearded Captain America (Chris Evans) comes out of retirement. Vision (Paul Bettany) looks to have taken human form-- a development Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) seems to like. Former bad guys, Tom Hiddleston's Loki (armed with an Infinity Stone) and Sebastian Stan's Winter Soldier, are now fighting on the side of good. Armed with the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos (Josh Brolin) finally gets his moment to wreak havoc and destruction.
But the trailer's money shot is its final one: when Thor (Chris Hemsworth) boards the Guardians of the Galaxy ship, asking, "Who the hell are you guys?"
As George Constanza would say, "Worlds are colliding!"
Notably missing from the two and a half minute clip: Paul Rudd's Ant-Man and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye. Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury is not seen, but his voice is heard.
"Avengers: Infinity War" is directed by Cleveland natives Joe and Anthony Russo. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters May 4, 2018.
