In an interview on ABC’s Australian Story tonight, Lawley said criticism of a Sports Illustrated show that featured plus-size models was wide of the mark.
“These are people we’re talking about. They have feelings,” Lawley told the program.
“I’ve met all the girls who did that catwalk. None of these models were unhealthy … they all work out.”
Hailing from Sydney’s western suburbs, Lawley, 28, made her name gracing the cover as a plus-size model for magazines such as Vogue Italia and Elle France.
She was the first such model to be shot for Australian Vogue, for GQ Australia and was the first to feature on the cover of Australian Cosmopolitan.
But she remains unimpressed by controversy over the size of models that feature on catwalks around the world.
Pretty damn proud of @si_swimsuit and @mj_day and the whole team for doing their latest runway show with an array of beauties and size diversity!!! They've also encouraged me behind the lens which I love
