Insider tips outrageous McGregor ‘superfight’

FORMER featherweight king Jose Aldo has a bone to pick with rival Max Holloway after being silenced by the champion in a brutal third-round TKO in June.

The Brazilian striker, who had his title taken from him by Conor McGregor in 2015, has lost just three times in his storied 29-fight career but will be put to the sword this afternoon (AEDT) against his taller, leaner opponent as he attempts to reclaim his throne.

Schaub backs McGregor ‘superfight’

Aussie UFC gun Robert Whittaker will not be challenging middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre any time soon, according to MMA expert Brendan Schaub.

St-Pierre shut out UFC veteran Michael Bisping in a brutal TKO at UFC 217 last month, claiming the middleweight belt in his comeback fight after a four-year hiatus. Whittaker, who is the division’s interim champion, said a fight with St-Pierre would be a “dream come true” — but Schaub says the MMA legend has a bigger fish to fry before taking on the Aussie.

“GSP is not fighting Whittaker,” Schaub, a former heavyweight competitor, told UFC commentator Joe Rogan on The Joe Rogan Experience.

“The rumour mill, from what I hear is he might want to see if he can cut to 170 (pounds) and do a super fight with Conor (McGregor) there.

“In a dream situation that’s what all sides would want to have happen and GSP, he’s taking time off now but I know he’s going to see if he can cut to 70 (170 pounds) to possibly make that happen. He is thicker than the three musketeers right now, and he’s a muscular dude, he’s getting older too so the weight comes on.

“(But) I bet he could do it at 70 (170 pounds) if he realises the possibilities of a superfight with Conor.”

UFC president Dana White said talks of St-Pierre’s next fight have been put on hold as the champion battles with illness.

“They didn’t talk Monday, they actually called me yesterday and I think it’s out that he has colitis,” White said. “So he’s out for a minute.”
