Fall (that’s the season we should be in now) brings with it old makeup standbys — wine-colored lipstick! Bold brows!
But every year there are new things to try.
Here are all the latest trends in fall makeup.
Sparkly lip toppers. The idea behind these ultra-shiny, sheer glosses is to layer them on top of an already beloved lipstick to change the color. Some add straight-up glitter; others produce a holographic sheen. Try the Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer, $18 at Sephora; the Vice Special Effects Long-Lasting Water-Resistant Lip Topcoat, $18 at Ulta; or the Ulta Lip Plumping Transforming Top Coat, $10 at Ulta. I like that with these products you’re getting new use from old favorites, but the final effect may prove too sparkly for daily life.
Glitter eyeshadow; glitter lipstick; glitter everything. Speaking of sparkle, everything seems to be glittery this fall. The stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow, $24 at Sephora, gives the illusion that you have liquid glitter covering your eyelid. The Ciaté London Glitter Flip, $19 at Sephora, magically transforms when you press your lips together to make your lips look as though they’re covered in liquid glitter. (Perhaps not that wearable for the office, but super-cool to watch.) One of the big problems with wearing glitter is fallout landing on your cheeks, giving you sparkly freckles. Too Faced is combating that with its Glitter POP! Peel-Off Eyeliner, $20 at Sephora, which stays put until you, well, peel it off. (Also very cool to watch.)
Gloooowing skin. These products don’t pack a glitter punch, but they’ll still make you shine. Apply to the high points of the face — tip of the nose, cheekbones, brow bone — to positively glow. Try the Hourglass Ambient Metallic Strobe Lighting Palette, $62 at Sephora; the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sugar Glow Kit, $40 at Sephora; or the Becca Après Ski Glow Face Palette, $54 at Sephora.
Purple eyeshadow. Last week, I mentioned how much I love orange eyeshadow, but this fall, the beauty brands are pushing purples. The range of shades is downright royal, and, I am loath to admit, even more wearable than my beloved orange. Try the Clinique Sweet as Honey Eyeshadow Palette, $32.50 at Sephora; the Huda Beauty Desert Dusk Eyeshadow Palette, $65 at Sephora; the Make Up For Ever Lustrous Shadow Palette, $49 at Sephora; or the Too Faced Just Peachy Velvet Matte Eyeshadow Palette, $45 at Sephora.
Alison Smith would rather be shiny, but all the glitter this fall is too much even for her. Got a burning beauty question? Email email@example.com.
