A Birmingham man wounded in a shooting nine months has died from his injuries.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office on Monday identified the victim as 26-year-old Torre Devon Jackson. The shooting happened on Feb. 26 in southwest Birmingham.
Authorities said Jackson was injured about 1 p.m. that Sunday in the 1300 block of 18th Street S.W. There were multiple people in an alley there and Jackson was in an argument with someone over his aunt's car.
As Jackson got into the backseat of a vehicle to leave, the suspect fired shots into the vehicle, striking Jackson twice, including at least once to the head. He was taken to UAB Hospital.
At some point, said Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates, Jackson was discharged from the hospital and moved to Shelby Ridge Nursing Home in Alabaster. He died at the facility on Saturday.
Authorities said a suspect was charged with assault at the time of the shooting. Those charges are expected to now be upgraded to murder. Information about the suspect wasn't immediately available.
Jackson is Birmingham's 99th homicide victim this year. Of those, at least five have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren't deemed criminal. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 153 homicides....Read more
