JERSEY CITY -- A man was stabbed to death inside a home in Heights section of the city on Tuesday evening.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office confirmed homicide detectives are investigating a fatal stabbing 197 Palisade Ave. The building is a two and a half story building between Laidlaw and Jefferson avenues.
Sources confirmed the man died after he was brought to Jersey City Medical Center and that at least one suspect was in custody.
Police and detectives were seen outside a corner near Baldwin and Hopkins avenue with two people in custody. At least one is believed to be a minor.
A woman, who identified herself to police as the victim's goddaughter, began yelling at the suspects as they were placed into the back of a cop car.
"What are you laughing at," she called to the two in custody. "They just killed my uncle."
Detectives confronted the victim's relatives on Hopkins Avenue and asked them if they knew or saw anything that happened. The woman yelled that she couldn't be a snitch.
Over at the scene, family members huddled together behind yellow police tape before leaving.
"I can't believe he's gone," one woman cried.
The building where the stabbing occurred is a former doctor's office which neighbors say has been converted into a home. Multiple residents in the area said a new family with two young boys recently moved in.
Additional information was not immediately available.
