Mid City Merchants' annual White Light Night art hop set for Nov. 17

Mid City Merchants is throwing its 20th annual White Light Night art hop from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Nov. 17 rain or shine. Artists will be showing their work and musicians will be performing in shops, galleries and restaurants throughout the area, from the intersection of Jefferson and Government streets to Interstate 110.  The event is free, and a free shuttle will take shoppers to art hop stops between Jefferson Highway at Goodwood Boulevard and the intersection of Government and 14th streets. Uber discounts are also offered that night. Proceeds will help purchase public art for the Mid City area of Baton Rouge. No city sales tax will be charged on sales of original art if purchased in the Mid City cultural district. White Light Night also marks the annual opening reception of the Fall Art Show at Elizabethan Gallery, 680 Jefferson Highway, featuring new work by gallery artists. The show will follow the yearlong theme of “200 Years of the Red Stick” to honor the 200th anniversary of the founding of Baton Rouge. For more information, call (225) 924-6437. Also, VanGuard Gallery inside Stephen Wilson Stained Glass Studio, 1469 Laurel St., is opening its annual group show to benefit the Bethany Centre Primary School in Jjungo, Uganda, founded by native Ugandan and LSU alumnus Peter Kiwanuka.
