Crabbing techniques

Summer striper patterns

Tuesday, June 13: Lenny Rudow, editor of Rudow's FishTalk Magazine, will discuss summer striper patterns in the Chesapeake Bay when he addresses the Northwest chapter of the Maryland Saltwater Sportfishing Association He'll also introduce the weekly fishing report publication, FishTalk Magazine. The meeting will be at Patapsco Council 1960 Knights of Columbus Hall at 1010 Frederick Road in Catonsville. Please use the Beaumont Avenue (side) entrance. Kids Fishing Derby

June 24: Pasadena Sportfishing Group's "Kids Fishing Derby" for children 4-13 will be 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Fernwood Pavilion in Downs Park. Free fishing day

July 4: Fish the state's waters without obtaining a fishing license, stamp or registration. Anglers must adhere to size and catch limits. Details: dnr.maryland.gov.

Fishing Derby

Aug. 12: MSSA Kent Island chapter's "Fishing Derby" will be held off Romancoke Pier, Route 8 south, Kent Island. Free. Age groups: 3-5, 6-10 and 11-16.

Summer Slam

Through Sept. 16: The "Summer Slam" tournament will be held on all tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries from the Susquehanna Flats to Chesapeake Bay-Bridge Tunnel. Four divisions: angler, fly, kayak and junior (ages 6-14). Entry fee is $40 per division.
