The staff at Rickwood Caverns State Park has decorated the underground caverns with over 100,000 Christmas lights. Here is a sneak peek of Santa's Underground Workshop.
Months in the planning, the staff from Rickwood Caverns State Park with help from employees from several other parks including DeSoto and Wheeler began transforming the cave Monday morning completing the task in just four days.
Lighting in the cave was changed over to LED lighting earlier this year but all of the lights were changed out this week to blue, red and green LEDs for the Christmas make over. Thousands more Christmas LED lights were added as well as dozens of Christmas trees donated by residents from the area.
Every "room" in the cavern has a different theme complete with specially selected Christmas music for each. Residents also donated dozens of lit figurines from snowmen to Snoopy.
The self guided tour takes about 30 minutes but visitors can remain in the cave as long as they like. At the end of the tour, Santa has set up shop deep inside the cave with Mrs. Claus and a few elves.
The cost of the tour is special too. Visitors can take the tour for $10. Children 3 and under are free. That's $7.00 less than the normal tour price. Tour hours are 2 p.m.-8 p.m. December 1-23. You can find further information here. Or check out the Facebook page here....Read more
