There is something of a reckoning happening right now for powerful men who chose to use that power as a means to take advantage of women. Lots of men from a variety of occupations like entertainment, music and politics are having their transgressions toward women revealed, despite their best efforts, publicly and finally suffering the belated consequences of their inability to behave like decent human beings. Lots of men, save one.
Our commander in chief, a man completely ignorant of the concept of hypocrisy, has seen fit to weigh in on the accusations facing some of America's prominent male citizens via his favorite vehicle for communicating to the masses, Twitter. Mr. Trump, at the same time completely self absorbed and completely un-self aware, has declared accused pedophile and candidate in his best interest Roy Moore to be innocent and anyone who has ever questioned his fitness to serve guilty.
President Trump lives in a reality where he, a man accused of dozens of separate incidents of sexual assault not to mention an episode on a promotional bus where he shamelessly boasted of his non-consensual conquests, has the moral authority to comment on the substance of allegations being made against other suspected predators. He likely sees it as red meat for his devoted, shrinking base of voters. I'm not so sure.
The president is enjoying, if you can call it that, historically low approval ratings and a withering core of rabid devotees. This can be attributed to a variety of factors like his severe ineptitude, his craven self interest and his utter devotion to the nation's richest 1% and their fortunes. It's hard to see how that is going to improve by tweeting it's cool if Roy Moore dates 14 year olds.
