Speedeor was the second of four winners for Darren Weir, who also scored with Bonus D’Oro, Ubin Thunderstruck and Night’s Watch. It was Speedeor’s first start since November and he has now put together four straight wins.
Mare Bonus D’Oro, who made it three wins on end, is a granddaughter of She’s Archie, who put the trainer on the map when she finished second in the 2003 Melbourne Cup.
Stockdale fined for punching filly
APPRENTICE Brandon Stockdale has left Sandown $800 lighter in the pocket following two separate fines, one for misconduct.
Racing Victoria stewards fined Stockdale $500 on Wednesday for punching his mount Maid To Measure in the stomach following the running of the Moorookyle Park Handicap. He was fined a further $300 after failing to claim his 2kg allowance aboard Bit Of A Lad in a later race.
Stockdale said he was frustrated with Maid To Measure after wasting in a bid to ride at 52kg later on the program, which led him to him punching the filly post-race.
He told stewards it was something that would not happen again.

Vasil’s new Hero
TONY Vasil only trains a handful of horses but three-year-old colt Lina’s Hero, who ran away with the Benchmark 1300m race at Sandown, could propel him back into the spotlight.
Jockey Ryan Maloney stamped him “as Caulfield Guineas quality” and had “untapped ability” after his four-length win. Lina’s Hero is by Elvstroem who Vasil trained to win five Group 1s but who was a disappointment at stud and was banished to France two years ago. The best horse he has sired is Hucklebuck, but Lina’s Hero is showing the potential to be even better.
Blondie on Group 1 path
BRENDAN McCarthy will set Blondie for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas after the filly won the Benchmark 70 (1000m) on Wednesday. “This was a good stepping stone for her,” McCarthy said. Blondie won her debut race at Moonee Valley before she finished last in the Blue Diamond. McCarthy was shocked by the run but later found out she had a hairline fracture of the pelvis. “To have her come back is great,” he said.
Currie whip ban
LUKE Currie was found guilty of overuse of the whip in his winning ride on Torreggiante on Wednesday and suspended for six meetings. Stewards said Currie used the whip 15 times before the 100m, 10 times more than permitted.
